This part of the website by Geert Woltjer on the muscial analysis of songs has been developed during HOVO-courses (a course for people older than 50) of Universiteit Maastricht, The Netherlands. Each site that you may select in the menu on the top consists of a musical analysis of a song cycle. The songs of the cycles are analyzed in order to improve the insight in the reasons why the songs work as they do. The analyses are made by an amateur musician, who likes to understand what he is doing. This web is the result of this analysis. It is not meant to be perfect; it's just the result of the HOVO-courses. The courses were provided in Dutch. Therefore, some of the analyses are in Dutch. Others are in English. I hope the analysis may help others to get a more in-depth view on the songs than while only singing, playing or listening to the music. For each song cycle a page with references for further study is added.
